View live pageAbout
Trillion Dollar Coach is a promotional website built for Eric Schmidt, Jonathan Rosenberg, and Alan Eagle's book "Trillion Dollar Coach: The Leadership Playbook of Silicon Valley's Bill Campbell." Published by HarperBusiness on April 16, 2019, the book draws on interviews with over 80 people who knew Bill Campbell — the legendary Silicon Valley coach whose mentoring helped build companies collectively worth over a trillion dollars, including Google, Apple, and Intuit.
The website serves as the primary digital hub for the book, offering an immersive JavaScript-driven experience that brings the story of Bill Campbell to life. The design pairs a clean typographic approach — using Roboto and Arial in light weights — with subtle fade-in animations and a refined light color palette. Accessibility was considered throughout, with focus-visible states and optimized web font loading using session storage caching.
The site was built at Toaster, the creative agency that originated from Google Creative Lab in London in 2010. Eric Schmidt's connection to Google made Toaster a natural partner for the project. The development team included technical leads, a creative technologist, a designer/art director, and a producer working together to deliver the site in time for the book's launch.
Results
The book became a #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller, New York Times Bestseller, and USA Today Bestseller. The website remains live at trilliondollarcoach.com.
